Today is Food Revolution Day - 15th May 2015!

Taking part in Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution campaign inspires us all to remember the importance of educating our children about food, healthy eating and most of all having fun in the kitchen.  

Today our Wentworth Primary students, as well as children from countries all over the world, took part in making the delicious 'SQUASH IT SANDWICH'. 

Armed with fresh ingredients, knives, spoons, rolling pins, as well as a big dose of excitement we all got to work.  

A big thank you to Mrs Morrison for making this all possible.  We all learned new skills and tasted yummy new foods.

The Magic of Tiritiri Matangi!

The Pukeko class had a magical time at Tiritiri Matangi Open Bird Sanctuary.

We were very fortunate to have the most wonderful guide who took us on a fabulous tour of this Island beginning with a special look at the gorgeous Little Blue Penguins.  Wow!  We were so lucky to see these, the smallest of all of the Penguins!  

We met the Saddleback, the Stitchbird (Hihi), Bellbird, Tui and the always fun Fantail.  

We were on guard at lunchtime protecting our sandwiches from the fascinating Takahe!

Our very special day concluded with our students taking part in a beach clean up, after a very interesting talk reminding us to take care of our planet Earth.

Saturday 25th April 2015 saw Wentworth Primary and Wentworth College students out in force at the Silverdale RSA to commemorate the ANZAC Centenary, marking 100 years since our nation's involvement in the First World War at ANZAC Cove, Gallipoli.

It was an extremely proud moment witnessing the entire Pukeko class march in the parade, with the war veterans, to show our respect for those brave men and women whom fought in World War 1.

Thank you to the families of the Pukeko class for making this special effort to attend this commemoration.  It was a pleasure to share ANZAC morning with you all.

We will remember them!

Welcome to Term 2

The holiday period has flown by and it is time for the Pukeko classroom to get back to work!

We will have a few new Pukeko friends joining us this term and we look forward to welcoming them into our classroom.

We are also looking forward to taking part in the following fun school activities:

• ANZAC day 100 year commemorations,
• Tiritiri Matangi trip,
• Years 1-3 Intensive Swim School at the Leisure Centre,
• Queens Birthday Holiday,
• End of Term School Disco.

During our Term 1 art classes we studied the artist Georgia O'Keefe.  We focussed our interest on her famous and beautiful floral artworks.  Please pop into school and take a look at our own Georgia O'Keefe inspired masterpieces hanging in the foyer as you enter the back of the school.  Here is a little sneak peak........

Moving, Growing, Knowing!

We have implemented a Perceptual Motor Programme into our Physical Education (PE) sessions (for Year 1 and 2 students) which aims to help us develop an understanding of:

- time and space,

- ourselves and our world,

- the laws and limitations that govern control over our bodies and the way they move.

I know that this will sound a little crazy but.......

MOVING MORE leads to SITTING STILL. 

The more we move our bodies the greater our ability to control our bodies to sit still!

Mathematics and Handwriting.

We start each day with Mathematics.  We are learning to read and sequence our numbers from 0 to 20.  

We enjoy reading and sequencing our numbers from 0 to 20.

Above and below:  We are learning the number that is one more and one less in the range 0 to 30.

We practise our Handwriting every day. 

Above and below: We are learning to control our pencil by having an efficient and effective pencil grip. 

I am learning to form my letter 'J' correctly.
