Our Senses

This term we are been studying 'Ourselves' as our topic for Science.

During this topic we have investigated the most common eye colour in the junior classrooms, the similarities and differences between us and our friends, and more recently we investigated the role of our Senses.

Today we investigated taste and our ability to identify sweet, salty, bitter and sour flavours.

See if you can guess whether we are eating something
sour or sweet............

I'm a POET and I KNOW IT!

The Fantail class have taken an action poem and changed the words.

Have a look at their clever (and cute) adaptation of 'There was a little Turtle.

Numbers are words!

Our fantails are learning to read numerals
as written words.

Writing

We have been writing about our favourite part of last week's Beach Day Picnic.
We look forward to you coming in to the classroom to see what we have written!

Sun, Sea and Sausages........It must be our Beach Picnic Day!

A stunningly sunny day set the stage for a fabulous Beach Picnic at Te Haruhi Bay, Shakespear Regional Park.

The glorious sunshine was not the only good fortune we were granted, as the high tide 'happened' to greet us on arrival also- thank you Mr D for working your magic with that one!

Swimming, sandcastle making and cicada shell hunting kept us all busy.  We even used our knowledge of rocks to investigate the treasures we found at the bottom of the sea.

The end of the day found many a tired fantail ready to rest with our heads filled with fabulous memories.  Thank you to everyone who helped us make this a special day!

The first letter in Programming is "B"...........

.......as in BEE BOTS!

We are teaching our Bee Bots to move forwards, backwards and turn.  Whilst this is FUN, we are also learning to write simple programs.
Look at our busy little bees hard at work........and the Bee Bots are busy too!

Welcome Fantails!

Welcome to our Fantail classroom blog.

Fantails (Piwakawaka) are well known for their energetic flying antics and our Fantail classroom is certainly emulating this fantail characteristic, as we are energetic and excited learners!

We have found a song about Fantails on YouTube.
We are learning the words at the moment so please feel free to learn the song to sing with us.

We will regularly update this blog so please keep checking to see all of the exciting learning we are doing!
