We are going to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo.......well maybe NOT today!

The rain let us down today and stopped us from heading out to Auckland Zoo to learn about animals and their habitats.

Even though we didn't get to the actual Zoo, a zeal of zebras took over our Kiwi class!

Get Down! Get Low! Get Out! FAST!

We were extremely fortunate to be visited by the New Zealand Fire Service (Silverdale Branch).  They discussd the importance of having a safety plan and they helped us to think of a safe meeting place, in case of an emergency.

Most of the Kiwi class decided that their mailbox would be a great meeting place and so they have all decided to discuss this with their families so they can all
GET FIREWISE!

Get down!  Get low!  Get out! FAST!  Staying low and getting out of the fire!

States of Matter

We are in the finishing stages of our Science topic States of Matter.

We have learned that Solids, Liquids and Gases are all Matter.

We have turned a liquid into a solid and a solid into a liquid.

We have tried to mix different liquids (oil and water) and learned that oxygen is a gas.

Glove filled with liquid and then frozen to make a solid.

Liquid in a glove

Gas in a glove

STOP! In the name of the law!

Term 2 started off with an exciting visit from Constable Bernie Watt.

Our Topic is Laws and Rules and we are focussing on who makes and enforces the law/rules at home, school and in the community.

A visit from Constable Watt was exactly what we needed to consolidate our understanding of the role of the Police in our community.  Constable Watt explained that the role of the New Zealand Police is to 'protect people and property'.  We discussed that protecting people means to help and look after us.  Brian and Bobby talked us through what to do if we get lost.  Knowing our name, address and phone number is really important and it was great to see that almost all of our class have memorised these details.

Have a look at the fun we had when we got to look at Constable Watt's Police car!
