We have been asking the question.......
What is it made of? 

We have identified characteristics of different materials by finding out if they are elastic, magnetic, waterproof or transparent.

We discovered that not all liquids are the same by creating a 'lava lamp'.  This investigation introduced us to terminology such as 'density' and 'dilution'.
