Welcome to our Pukeko Classroom

Welcome to the very first Pukeko classroom blog.
Pukeko's are an extremely well-known bird in New Zealand due to the fact that they have gorgeous bright blue plumage and red beaks which stand out against the green backdrop of New Zealand....and this is an appropriate classroom name for our newest members of Wentworth Primary School as they are certainly going to stand out in the crowd!
We have two new Pukeko's in our classroom and they are keen and ready to learn.
This term our Pukeko's will be working hard to enrich their love of literature through the development of their Reading and Writing skills.
They will be counting to 20 and beyond, as they navigate the exciting world of Mathematics.
During Term 1 we will have a visit from Mr Watts who will help us learn road safety, take a trip to Shakespeare Park for a great Beach Picnic day and our Dad's will be coming to school to take part in all of the things we do!
We will have more students joining us as Term 1 progresses but here is a peek at what we have been up to so far!

Choosing our own books to read is fun - especially when you can read in a tent.

We are learning to form our letters correctly using whiteboards, play doh,  sand and drawing letters outside using chalk.

We are working together to make words using our magnetic letters.

We can read numbers and make sets of objects that match that number.

We can order our numbers from 0 - 10.

We are making jellyfish, just like in our story 'Commotion in the Ocean', and we are refining our fine motor skills by threading pipe cleaners through holes.

Please feel free to visit our blog site to gain an insight into what we have been up to and if you have any questions about what we are doing in the classroom please feel free to contact us.
