Silverdale Pioneer Village

The Silverdale Pioneer Village had it ALL today - a Forge, Cowshed, Old Schoolhouse, Chapel and a ghostly piano!

We looked, touched and were a part of the olden days!  

We were fascinated by the luggage trunks and hat boxes, the mangle and the TV's (with NO REMOTE!).  

We were herded into a cowshed and felt the heat in the Forge.  

We watched a wonderful lady play the piano with her feet and we all sat at attention, hoping we wouldn't get the cane, in the Old Schoolhouse!

We learned so much, had some fun and were very tired when the day was done.

The olden days - Wow - were they really that long ago?

Our Social Sciences topic this term has had us looking at the 
'Olden Days'.  

Specifically, we have learned that in the 'olden days' movies had no sound or colour.  We compared the Disney movie 'Moana' to a silent Charlie Chaplin movie, and we were so impressed by the pianist who played music as the movie played on screen.  

We have looked at games played in the 'olden days', like marbles and spinning tops.  

We have begun to look at sewing and cross-stitch and we are working on a piece of cross-stitch which we hope to bring home soon. 

 Tomorrow we will be visiting the Silverdale Pioneer Village and we are very excited about all of the things that we will see and learn there!

Sugar and spice and all things nice?

Our Science Topic this term has been OURSELVES.  

We have investigated similarities and differences between each other.  We have named and labelled parts of our body and we are now exploring our understanding of our Senses.  

On Friday we experimented with our sense of TASTE.  We attempted to ascertain whether or not something tasted sweet, bitter or salty.  We tried toothpaste, fresh lemon juice, salt, Vegemite and even a little chocolate.

Today we were very fortunate to have a new student join our classroom.

Down in the jungle where nobody goes there's a great big DINOSAUR washing his clothes!

During our Friday Mathematics session we were trying to discover how many dinosaurs were washing their clothes in the jungle.

We wrote out a story problem and then identified the important words.  We used these words to work out which mathematical operation would best help us solve our problem.  Then we used our clever brains to solve our mathematical problem.

Beach Picnic

Sun, Sea, Sausages and Sports ensured that we all had a busy and fun day at the Wentworth Primary Beach Picnic

.  Even though the water was only up to our knees, it was still fun to wade in, collect shells and hunt for sea monsters.

Thank you to all of the families and friends who came to support us and be a part of our day.  We honestly could not have had such a lovely day if it wasn't for your carpooling, sunscreen applying and sausage cooking.

We are looking forward to next year already!
